A large, fast growing tree developed at the Morton Arboretum. It has no serious pest or disease problems, and is tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions. It prefers a moist soil and full sun. It has an upright, pyramidal form with a strong central leader. The exfoliating, peeling bark develops attractive patterns as the tree ages (somewhat like puzzle pieces). The see production is generally light. It has a relatively aggressive root system; take this into account when selecting this tree. The fall color is greenish yellow.
