Red Buckeye
A small rounded tree or large shrub with glossy, dark green foliage. Red blooms are held in 8" tall panicles and appear in late spring. The fruit is a large leathery capsule with large, shiny, brown seeds, each with a pale scar ("buck's eye"). It prefers moist soils and some shade, but will tolerate full sun to deep shade. Attractive to hummingbirds.
