Acer macrophyllum

Bigleaf Maple

A dense, rounded tree, native to the stream banks of the West Coast. The very large, dark green leaves turn yellow in the fall. Grows very quickly. The young bark is smooth and grayish brown, later darker brown with ridges and furrows. It does not do well in drought or high heat areas. Performs best in full sun in a well-drained soil with summer moisture.
