The two photos were taken 7 days apart. The foliage is alone worth growing this plant for, the flowers are an over-the-top bonus. The camera cannot capture the intense color on a summer day.
A compact, rounded crapemyrtle. The flowers are bright red. The glossy leaves emerge with a red tint and turn darker green. It starts blooming early and continues to bloom throughout the summer. It grows best in full sun. It is drought tolerant once established, however, regular summer moisture will improve flowering. If needed, prune when dormant as the flowers occur on new wood.
