A low growing perennial groundcover that spreads by rhizomes. Bright green foliage with tiny green and purple flowers with white bracts in the summer are followed by edible red-orange berries. The fall color is bronzy-red. It needs cool, moist, acidic soils and sun to part shade. Don't allow it to dry out. Native to the northern half of North America. Use in a shady garden for best results.
