Franz Fontaine Columnar Hornbeam

A fastigiate form of European Hornbeam that keeps it's upright form even into old age. The dark green foliage turns yellow in the fall. The smooth gray bark of the trunk can develop muscle-like fluting with age. It is disease and pest resistant. It is tolerant of a range of soils, as long as the site is well-drained. It is used as a street tree, for hedging, or even pruned into unique arches or topiary.
