Calycanthus floridus

Carolina Allspice

A dense rounded shrub with brown to reddish-brown flowers that are very fragrant. Some describe the scent as fruit-like including strawberry, banana, and pineapple. The glossy, dark green leaves and bark can release a clove or camphor-like scent when crushed. It is easily grown in average, well-drained soil, in full sun to part shade. It is native from Virginia to Florida.
