Acer griseum

Paperbark Maple

A slow growing maple with striking cinnamon brown to reddish brown, exfoliating bark. Green trifoliate leaves, silvery underside, turn to bright red and orange in the fall. An excellent small garden tree, that should be better known for its toughness. Grown from seeds, the form varies from a tree form to low branched and shrubby. It prefers a moist, well-drained, slightly acidic site. A tough, adaptable tree that should be considered more often for the landscape.
